The 2025-2026 Dress Code
FAQs: Dress Code at MDC
Q: Why do you have a dress code?
A: Our dress code helps dancers focus, promotes discipline, and allows teachers to see body alignment clearly for safe corrections. It also creates a sense of unity and professionalism in class. For younger dancers especially, a consistent dress code helps them understand structure and routine, feel like part of a team, and get into the “dancer mindset” when they walk into the studio.
Q: Where can I purchase the required attire?
A: All required dress code items can be purchased through our online store. (Link below!)
Please note: we do not carry dancewear or shoes at the studio.
Q: Do I have to order through you?
A: For the leotard—yes! All dancers must have the class-specific leotard from our online store so we can ensure consistency across each level. We also highly recommend purchasing shoes, tights, and skirts through our shop to make sure you’re getting the right fit, color, and style for your dancer’s class.
Q: What if my dress code items haven’t arrived yet?
A: We understand orders can take time! There is a grace period for all required attire to arrive—please have everything by October 1. If you’re still waiting on your order close to that date, please contact us so we can support you.
Q: How long does it take for dress code items to arrive?
A: Orders typically take 5-7 business days to arrive, but we often find they come even faster! To make sure your dancer is ready for class, please place your order early.
Q: Where do dress code orders ship?
A: Orders from our online store ship directly to your home—making it easy and convenient to get everything you need!
Q: What if my dancer forgets part of their dress code?
A: We understand that accidents happen! Please do your best to make sure your dancer comes prepared each week. We do not have shoes available to borrow, so arriving in proper attire and footwear is important. If forgetfulness becomes habitual, we’ll kindly reach out to help get everyone back on track.
Q: Do hair and shoes matter that much?
A: Absolutely. Hair should be secured in a bun for all classes—not just ballet. It keeps dancers focused and safe. Proper shoes are also essential for developing correct technique and preventing injury.
Q: Can my dancer wear jewelry to class?
A: For safety reasons, we have a no jewelry policy in all classes—this includes necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. The only exception is for dancers who have newly pierced ears and must keep small, flat studs in during the healing period.
